This opening is for the position of Support Engineer. The primary responsibility is to support our increasing customer base, and to provide support to our Reseller channel, who in turn support their clients.
The ideal client will be well versed in the following areas and skills:
We are looking to hire a support person with a good in depth grasp of Linux, ideally already using or with an experience of SmoothWall would be hugely beneficial. Your core responsibilities will be working with two other dedicated support people managing our global helpdesk which runs on the RT helpdesk system. Ability to communicate both verbally and orally is essential, as is attention to detail and the ability to proactively work as part of a good team. Some Perl experience would be helpful, as is familarity with Virtual Private Networking under Linux.
Flexibility is the key to the right candidate.
The position is based at our new development office in the Southampton area (UK). A good salary, commensurate with ability and experience, is available to the right candidate.

* A good e-mail and telephone manner is essential, as is being methodical and concise in the assistance you will be offering.
* Network setup and configuration, including routers, hubs, and general network infastructure, and diagnostics.
* PC hardware, especially relating to networking.
* A good knowledge of Linux/UNIX administration, since the secondary responsibility would be maintenance of servers, etc. A basic programming / scripting ability, e.g. Perl, bash, is an advantage.
* Familiarity with the SmoothWall GPL and commercial products would be an enormous advantage.
* Knowledge and practical experience of VPN technologies is an advantage, as many support queries are made regarding VPN functions and solutions.
